Brock rides into danger in the new chapter of ‘Stealing Time’:

Next morning the whole household was up and ready early.

This was the big day of the opening of the Great Exhibition and his lordship’s open carriage arrived at the door sharp on nine, bright and shining. Brock sat with his back to the coachman with a bishop from some colonial outpost and his host opposite. How this odd couple became acquainted soon came clear. It turned out that the cleric was more interested in Chinese porcelain than curing souls.

“M,name is Cirencester.. Like the town…!”, wheezed the old dither. He waffled on, “David has a superb eye you know. Superb eye…. He really didn’t need my advice at the last auction. Bought an exquisite Ming vase at a snip, a snip, Sir!”
